# Managing chart settings in Talkspirit

## Managing chart settings in Talkspirit

Your organisation chart can be drawn three different ways. An administrator decides which of those views members can use, which one they land on, and whether member photos appear on the chart at all. It is all on one page: **Structure settings > Visualisation**.

Only organisation administrators can change these settings, and the menu item does not appear for anyone else. There is nothing to buy for them either: none of this belongs to the Holacracy add-on and none of it depends on your plan.

## How do I open Visualisation settings?

1. Open the **Structure** app.
2. Click **Structure settings** at the bottom of the left panel.
3. Select **Visualisation**.

![The Structure settings menu open at the bottom of the Structure panel, listing General, Visualisation, Time spent in roles, Working agreements, Governance fields, Translation and Notifications, with the Visualisation settings page behind it](/images/structure-governance/managing-chart-settings/01-structure-settings-menu-visualisation.png)

The page opens on the **Views** tab, next to **Highlight** and **Timetravel**.

There is no **Save** button. Every switch and menu here saves the moment you change it, and Talkspirit confirms with **Visualisation settings saved successfully**.

## Which views can I enable?

**Enabled views** lists the three ways of drawing your organisation, each with its own switch. All three are on to begin with.

![The Views tab of Visualisation settings: an Enabled views section with a switch turned on for Circles and roles, Hierarchy and Network, a Default view menu set to Circles and roles, and a Show Member Avatars switch turned on](/images/structure-governance/managing-chart-settings/02-visualisation-settings-views-tab.png)

| View | What it draws |
|---|---|
| **Circles & roles** | Your organisation as nested circles, with roles inside them |
| **Hierarchy** | A top-down tree of cards, one card per circle or role |
| **Network** | Circles and roles laid out as a network of connections |

Turn a switch off and that view's button disappears from **Explore organisation** for everybody. Turn it back on and the button returns.

**At least one view must always be enabled.** Once you are down to a single view, its switch is locked and the page says so. If you disable the view that is currently the default, Talkspirit moves the default to the first view still enabled, so you never have to repair that by hand.

> **Note:** If your organisation has renamed circle and role under **Administration > Terminology**, the first view is named after your own words instead.

## How do I set the default view?

**Default view** is the menu below the switches. It offers only the views you have enabled, and it is locked while a single view is enabled, because there is nothing left to choose.

The default is what a member sees the first time they open **Explore organisation**. After that their own choice wins: the view a member last used is remembered in their browser and reopens with them. So changing the default does not move colleagues who have already picked a view for themselves. It sets the starting point for everyone who has not.

There is one case where a member is moved anyway. If you disable the view someone was using, their next visit puts them on the default instead.

## What else is on this page?

**Show Member Avatars**, the third setting on the **Views** tab, is on to begin with. Turn it off and roles stop showing the photos of the people who hold them, on the **Circles & roles** and **Hierarchy** views. Names and everything else stay. The **Network** view never draws member photos, so this setting does not change it.

Two more tabs sit beside **Views**:

- **Highlight** is where you build the highlights your members then apply from the chart's **Highlight** menu. See [Managing chart highlights as an administrator](/structure-governance/manage-highlights-as-an-admin).
- **Timetravel** holds a single switch, **Enable export**, which is off to begin with. Turn it on to let members export the Timetravel animation as an MP4 video or an animated GIF.
