# What the Talkspirit MCP server can do

The Talkspirit MCP server lets an AI assistant such as Claude work in your organisation for you. The assistant reads circles, roles, tasks, meetings, goals, metrics and posts, and creates or changes a defined set of items. It acts as you, with your own permissions. It removes almost nothing, and it never changes a circle or a role directly.

To connect an assistant first, follow [Connecting Claude and other AI assistants to Talkspirit](/en/integrations/connect-claude-and-other-ai-assistants).

## Which rules apply to everything the assistant does?

- **It acts as you.** It uses your own identity, through your MCP key or your sign-in. Talkspirit applies the same permission rules as to your own actions, so the assistant can do what those rules allow even where a screen does not offer it.
- **Its changes carry your name.** A task it creates or a comment it writes appears as yours, and nothing marks it as made by the assistant.
- **Your key decides whether it can write.** A **Read only** key lets it read, search and count, and hides its write tool. Anything else needs a **Read and write** key, or a sign-in that granted write access.
- **One request can change up to 100 items of the same kind.** Talkspirit checks and applies each item in turn.
- **Guests can do less.** Guests cannot create boards, goals, meetings or agenda items, and some guests cannot read circles and roles.
- **Administrators have no switch for it.** No organisation setting turns the MCP server off, and switching Spark off does not disconnect it. Administrators cannot see or revoke members' MCP keys: each member deletes their own under **Account → MCP keys**.

> **Note:** a change to several items is not all or nothing. If one item fails, the items already changed stay changed and the next items are still tried, and a long request can stop early. Ask the assistant which items failed or were not tried before you retry.

## What can the assistant read?

The assistant reads the items below, with the fields, filters and sorting it asks for. It gets only what Talkspirit lets you see. Some items are visible to every member: tensions, circle checklists and their comments, time allocations, and who holds each role.

| Area | What the assistant reads |
| --- | --- |
| Structure and governance | Circles, roles, who holds each role and who belongs to each circle, time allocations, tensions, proposals, working agreements such as policies and procedures, circle checklists, and the comments on proposals, working agreements and checklists |
| Projects | Boards with their sections and labels, tasks with their subtask groups and the files and links attached to them, and the comments on tasks and boards |
| Meetings | Meetings with their participants, reports, transcripts and action items, and your own agenda items |
| Goals and metrics | Goals, key results, metrics, the files and links attached to a goal or a metric, and the comments on them |
| Newsfeed | Posts |
| Members | Names |

Four limits apply to reading:

- **Agenda items are yours only.** The assistant lists the agenda items you created or present, in any meeting or your parking lot, never a meeting's full agenda. An empty list means you have no items there.
- **Contact details stay out.** The assistant reads members' names, never their email addresses or phone numbers, unless someone typed them into a text.
- **Only a task's attached files come with a download link.** For each file attached to a task, the assistant gets its name, type and size, and a temporary link that downloads the file without signing in. For a file attached to a goal or a metric it gets the name, type and size, and no download link. For an attached link, wherever it hangs, it gets the link's title and its address.
- **Some lists stop at one page.** Proposals, tensions and working agreements come back 50 at a time and members 100 at a time, with no next page. Ask for a narrower list, for example one circle.

## Which searches and analyses can it run?

- **Search the Knowledge Base.** When your organisation has the Knowledge Base enabled, the assistant searches it: the documents added to it, roles and circles, and each source an administrator switched on, such as decided proposals, published meeting reports, goals and working agreements. An empty result means nothing matched, the Knowledge Base is off, or the search failed.
- **Count and compare.** The assistant counts items such as tasks, meetings, goals and comments, broken down by a field such as status where the item allows it. It also compares groups side by side, for example the tasks in progress on two boards.
- **Analyse your strategy.** The assistant checks your goals against your organisation's structure, flags what blocks them and suggests actions. It reads your goals from the Knowledge Base, and reports that it cannot run the analysis when it finds none. Each report is saved for you alone, and a **Read only** key can run it.

## What can the assistant create and change?

Every action below needs write access.

| Area | What the assistant can do |
| --- | --- |
| Tasks | Create a task or a subtask with its assignees. Change its title, description, board, section, priority, dates, privacy and status (**To Do**, **In Progress**, **Done**, **Blocked**); moving a task to another board removes its labels. Create and update subtask groups. Assign a member, role, circle or group to a task. Create a label on a board and put it on a task. Attach a file that is already in Talkspirit to a task |
| Boards | Create a board, which you own and which is private unless you choose another privacy. Change its name, description and privacy. Add a member, role, circle or group with a board role. Add a section |
| Goals | Create and change goals, including their category, owner, parent goal, privacy, health status, time periods and progress. Create and change key results, including their current value and progress |
| Metrics | Define a metric owned by a circle or a role, and edit it. Record a value for a period on a circle's or a role's metric, which any member can do. Recording again for the same period replaces the value |
| Meetings | Create a meeting, as a draft unless you ask for it to be scheduled; in a circle, it invites the circle's members. Change a meeting you can edit, including its status, for example to cancel it; a cancelled meeting cannot change again. Create a recurring meeting with you as its only participant. Add an agenda item to a meeting you can add items to, or to your parking lot |
| Governance | Raise a tension and edit the tensions you wrote. Create and edit circle checklists, and tick or untick a checklist for its current period. Add a custom field to circles or roles, if you are an administrator |
| Comments | Comment on a task, board, goal, key result or metric, and reply to a comment. Edit a comment you wrote, or any comment on a board you manage |
| Links | Attach a link, such as a shared document or a recording, to an agenda item you can edit or to a circle's checklist |

> **Note:** the text it writes keeps its formatting. Titles, lists, bold, italic, code and links the assistant writes in a description or a comment come out as formatting rather than as the characters it typed. A comment is laid out in plain paragraphs, so a title in one reads as a bold line and a list item as a bullet.

## What can the assistant remove?

The assistant removes three things only: an assignee from a task (the task itself stays), a label from a task, and a link you added from an agenda item or a checklist. It deletes no task, board, goal, key result, meeting, metric, label, comment, tension or proposal.

## What can the assistant not do?

- Create, change, move or delete a circle or a role.
- Read or send chat messages.
- Publish a post, or edit a working agreement.
- Delete or archive a task, board, goal, meeting or metric.
- Invite or deactivate members, change who holds a role, or remove a member from a board.
- Change organisation or module settings, apart from adding a custom field.
- Process a tension, or submit a proposal.
- Answer a meeting invitation, change an agenda item once added, or change a whole recurring series. It can still change or cancel a single meeting of the series.

## Where does the content it reads go?

Content the assistant reads through the MCP server leaves Talkspirit. It goes to the assistant you connected, and that assistant's provider processes it, for example Anthropic for Claude, under the terms you or your company accepted with that provider. This includes the download links of files attached to tasks.

Talkspirit also keeps its own records:

- **Each call is logged:** which tool, the result, how long it took, and which member and organisation made it.
- **Strategy reports are stored.** To analyse your strategy, Talkspirit sends your goals and structure to Spark's AI provider, and keeps each report with the data it analysed. [How Spark processes your organisation's data](/en/administration-security/how-ai-processes-your-data) describes that provider.
