# Send your personal tasks to OmniFocus

> **In summary:** OmniFocus is a personal integration. You enable it for yourself from **Profile & Preferences**, on the **General** page, under **Integrations**, by pasting your OmniFocus **Mail Drop address**. There is no sign-in: each task created on no project, with you as its only assignee, is marked done in Talkspirit as soon as it is created, then emailed to that address about a minute later, and lands in your OmniFocus **Inbox**. A **Test** button lets you check the address. The integration never switches itself off.

This guide covers OmniFocus. The other personal tool, Todoist, follows the same rules for which tasks are sent: see [Send your personal tasks to Todoist](/integrations/send-your-personal-tasks-to-todoist).

## Before you start

You need a **Mail Drop address**. OmniFocus files every email sent to it in your Inbox. You generate it in your Omni Sync Server account, in the **Manage** section, under **Mail Drop**.

You can hold one personal tool at a time: Todoist or OmniFocus. While Todoist is enabled, **Enable** on the OmniFocus row is unavailable, and its tooltip says: *Only one personal integration at a time: disable Todoist first.*

## Enable OmniFocus

1. Open your profile menu, then **Profile & Preferences**. The **General** page opens.
2. Under **Integrations**, on the **OmniFocus** row, select **Enable**.
3. A dialog asks **Confirm activation?** Select **Enable**.
4. In the **Mail Drop address** field, paste your address, then select **Save**.

The row reads **Connected** and says: *All new personal tasks are sent to OmniFocus.*

Only one plain address on the `sync.omnigroup.com` domain is accepted. A list of addresses, a name in front of the address, a line break or another domain (a sub-domain of `sync.omnigroup.com` included) is refused with: *This is not an OmniFocus Mail Drop address. Paste it exactly as OmniFocus shows it: it ends in @sync.omnigroup.com.*

To stop, select **Disable** on the row, then confirm. Tasks already sent stay in OmniFocus.

## Test the connection

While the row reads **Connected**, select **Test**. Talkspirit emails one item titled `Talkspirit connection test (safe to delete)` to your Mail Drop address, and the row says: *A test task was sent to your OmniFocus Inbox. You can delete it.* No task is created in Talkspirit.

- The test item's title is in English, whatever your language.
- As for a real task, this message means the email was handed to Talkspirit's mail service. Check your OmniFocus Inbox to see that the item arrived.
- If the email cannot be handed over, the row says: *The test task could not be delivered to OmniFocus. Try again later.* The integration stays connected.
- After a test, wait 30 seconds before selecting **Test** again. A second press within 30 seconds sends nothing, and the row shows the same *could not be delivered* message.

## Which tasks are sent

A task is sent when it is created, if it is on no project, is not a subtask, and has you as its only assignee. A copy of such a task, made with its assignees, and each new occurrence of a recurring task that keeps you as its only assignee, are sent too. A task created on a project is not: a project has its own integrations. The full table, with every case that is not sent, is in [Send your personal tasks to Todoist](/integrations/send-your-personal-tasks-to-todoist); the rules are the same for both tools.

## What OmniFocus receives

Each task is one email, sent to your Mail Drop address.

| In Talkspirit | In OmniFocus |
| --- | --- |
| The task's title | The item's name (the email's subject) |
| The task's description | The item's note (the email's body) |

No due date and no assignee are sent. The item lands in your **Inbox**.

## The hand-off

Talkspirit marks the task done as soon as it is created. At the top of the task, it shows *This task continues in OmniFocus.* There is no link: an email to Mail Drop creates no address Talkspirit could point to. The task becomes read-only in Talkspirit, and it can no longer be reopened.

The email leaves about a minute later: Talkspirit groups integration events for one minute before sending them.

> **Important:** Talkspirit does not know whether OmniFocus filed the item. If the email is lost after it was handed over, the task still reads as done. If a task you expected is missing from your Inbox, select **Test** on the row to check the address.

## When a task is not sent

If the email cannot be handed over to the mail service, the task goes back to to-do in Talkspirit: the banner disappears and the task can be edited again. It is not sent again.

The integration never switches itself off. The row keeps reading **Connected**, and the next tasks are tried as usual. If you changed your Mail Drop address, **Disable** OmniFocus and enable it again with the new address.

## What’s next?

- [Send your personal tasks to Todoist](/integrations/send-your-personal-tasks-to-todoist): the other personal tool, with the full table of which tasks are sent and the hand-off.
- [Connect a project to a project tool](/integrations/connect-a-project-to-a-project-tool): the same hand-off for the tasks of a project, to Trello, Asana, Jira or Basecamp.
