# Setting my status on Talkspirit

## Setting my status on Talkspirit
Your status is an emoji with a short message that tells colleagues what you are doing or where you are: in a meeting, on vacation, working from home. You set it from your user menu in classic Talkspirit, and it stays until you change it or remove it.

It is display only. Your status changes nothing about how notifications reach you, and it does not tell anyone whether you are connected.

Every member can set one. No particular right is needed.

## Set your status

1. Open classic Talkspirit, for example by selecting **Newsfeed** or **Chat** in the navigation rail.
2. Select your avatar at the top right of the screen.
3. Select the first row of the menu. It reads **Online** while you have no status, and shows your current status once you have one.
4. Choose one of the five suggestions: **In a meeting**, **On the way**, **Sick leave**, **On vacation**, **Remote work**.

To write your own instead, select the smiley button and pick an emoji, then type your text in the **What's your status?** field.

A suggestion or an emoji is saved the moment you select it. Text you type yourself is saved when you click outside the field. There is no Save button, and no length limit on the text.

**Choose an emoji, even for a custom status.** Colleagues only ever see the emoji, and your text appears as a tooltip when they point at it. A status made of text alone is saved and shown back to you in your own menu, but nobody else sees anything.

## Where your colleagues see it

Once your status carries an emoji, it appears as a small badge beside your name, or on your avatar, in classic Talkspirit:

- on your posts and comments in the newsfeed;
- in chat conversations;
- in the list of members that opens when you type an @ mention;
- in the member directory and in the profile panel.

The change reaches everyone straight away: other members see it without reloading the page.

Your status does not appear in the new apps. Cockpit, Structure, Goals, Projects and Meetings show your name and your avatar without it.

## What your status does not do

- **It is not a presence indicator.** The small green or grey dot on avatars in chat, in the member directory and in the profile panel is a separate, automatic signal: it shows whether that person is connected right now. Setting yourself to **On vacation** leaves your dot green for as long as you stay connected.
- **It does not change your notifications.** Nothing is muted, delayed or redirected. To stop being interrupted, use Do Not Disturb. To change what you receive, use your notification settings.
- **It never expires.** There is no timer and nothing clears it at the end of the day. **On vacation** stays until you remove it yourself.

## Change or remove your status

1. Select your avatar, then the first row of the menu, which now shows your status.
2. Choose another suggestion, edit the text, or select the emoji button to change the emoji.
3. To clear it, select the cross to the right of the text field. The menu row goes back to **Online**.
