# Configuring my notification settings

## Configuring my notification settings
Your notification settings live in **Account** > **Notifications**, split into four tabs: **Structure**, **Goals**, **Projects** and **Meetings**. Each tab has its own email and desktop switches plus one row per event. Everything arrives switched on, so this page is where you turn notifications down rather than up. Settings are per app, not per circle.

## Open your notification settings

1. Click your profile picture, then open **Account**.
2. Select **Notifications** in the left-hand panel.

You only see a tab for an app you can already open, so your page may show fewer than four. Two shortcuts save you the trip: the **Notification settings** link in the notification panel's menu, and the **Notifications** entry in each app's own settings sidebar, which opens this page on the matching tab.

## Choose your channels

Every tab opens with **Global Settings** and two switches:

- **Enable email notifications** sends the notification to your email address.
- **Enable desktop notifications** covers the notification bell in the top bar, plus a pop-up from your computer when you have allowed your browser to show them.

Turning a global switch off greys out that whole column underneath: every event in it shows as off and cannot be clicked until you switch the channel back on. Each tab carries its own pair, so you can keep meeting emails and drop project emails.

## Set individual events

Below the global switches, a table lists every event that app can notify you about, with an **Email** column and a **Desktop** column. **Every event is on for both channels by default**, so the table also tells you what you are receiving today.

| Tab | Events it covers |
|---|---|
| **Structure** | 16 rows: role and circle assignment or unassignment, role scope changes, applications to a role open for hiring, working agreement mentions, publication and assignment, proposals opened, adopted, objected to, commented on or mentioning you, checklist mentions, and a periodic time spent reminder |
| **Goals** | 3 rows: goal assignment, progress update, goal completed |
| **Projects** | 9 rows: task assignment and unassignment, task comment mentions, task, sub-task and project archiving or completion, and two metric rows |
| **Meetings** | 4 rows: meeting scheduled, meeting approaching (about 48 hours ahead), meeting overdue, meeting report published |

Some rows appear only when your organisation uses that feature: the checklist and metric rows, and the time spent reminder, are hidden otherwise. Your choices save as you switch them, confirmed by a **Notification preferences updated** message.

Rows marked with an asterisk never fire for your own actions. You are not notified about something you did yourself.

## What you cannot switch off

Three limits are worth knowing before you go looking for a control that is not there.

- **Meeting changes and cancellations.** When a meeting you take part in is rescheduled or cancelled, you are told by email and on your desktop. Neither has a row in the table, so the only way to stop them is the matching global switch on the **Meetings** tab, which silences that whole channel for meetings.
- **Metric notifications** show a dash instead of a switch in the **Email** column. They only ever reach the notification bell.
- **This page has no digest, frequency or batching option.** Each notification it governs is sent as its event happens; the only choices are on or off, per event, per channel. A separate summary email does exist for the classic apps — see [Receiving a summary email of missed activities](/communication/how-to-receive-a-digest-email-notification).

## If your emails stop arriving

An administrator can switch off notification emails for the whole organisation. When they do, your switches on this page still show as on and still save normally, but no email is sent, and nothing on this page tells you so.

> **Note:** If your bell notifications keep working while your emails stop, ask your administrator whether the organisation-wide email setting has been turned off.
