# Working with labels


## Working with labels

Labels are colour-coded keywords attached to posts in a group's newsfeed to mark a status or a stage, such as "In progress" or "Decision". Each group has its own set of labels, and every group member can attach existing labels to posts, whether or not they are allowed to manage the set itself.

> **In summary:** Click the **+** button at the bottom of a group post and choose **Labels**, then pick labels in the **Select a label...** field. Click a label in that panel to filter the newsfeed down to the posts that carry it.

## Add labels while writing a post

1. Address your post to a group. Labels belong to groups, so the **Labels** tab asks you to select a group as the recipient first.
2. Click the **Labels** tab below the editor.
3. Pick one or more labels in the **Select a label...** field.
4. Publish your post as usual.

## Add or remove labels on a published post

1. Click the **+** button at the bottom of the post and choose **Labels**. On a post that already carries labels, you can also click the small coloured circles at the top of the post.
2. The label panel opens at the top of the post. Pick labels in the **Select a label...** field to add them.
3. To remove a label, click the **cross** on it in the panel.

Labels appear on the post as small coloured circles. Hover over them to read their names. You can label your own posts and other members' posts alike, as long as you are a member of the group.

## Filter the newsfeed by label

In the label panel, click a label: the feed shows only the posts carrying it. Click the label again to remove the filter.

## Create new labels

If you are allowed to manage this group's labels, the **Select a label...** field also offers **Create new label**: pick a colour, type a name and click **Create**.
