# Using the Newsfeed

## Using the Newsfeed

The Newsfeed is where you read and publish posts in Talkspirit. It shows the posts published in the groups you follow and the private posts addressed to you personally, with the most recent activity first. Open it by clicking **Newsfeed** in the navigation bar. This page is a tour of the feed: what appears in it, the controls at the top, and how to choose which groups appear.

## What appears in the Newsfeed?

The feed gathers three kinds of content:

- **Posts from the groups you follow.** You automatically follow every group you join, so your feed starts with the posts of all your groups. Posts published by integrations connected to those groups appear in the same stream.
- **Private posts**: posts addressed to you personally rather than to a group. Only the author and the recipients see them.
- **Events and shared files** published in your groups.

Posts are ordered by most recent activity, so a post moves back up when it receives a comment. Two kinds of posts sit above the stream instead:

- A post **pinned** by a group manager stays at the top of that group's feed.
- A post an administrator has **set as important** stays at the top of every recipient's Newsfeed until they have seen it. See [Defining important posts](/en/communication/define-important-posts).

If your organisation uses the post validation workflow, some posts reach the feed only after a reviewer approves them. See [Getting a post reviewed before publishing](/en/communication/how-to-get-a-post-review-with-the-review-process).

## What can I do from the top of the feed?

- Click **New** to publish: **Create a post**, **Create a photo gallery**, **Create a poll** or **Create a checklist**.
- Search the feed by keyword, and narrow the results by author, group, label or date.
- Switch between **Card view** and **List view**.
- Apply a quick filter: **Assigned to me**, **Private posts** or **My favorite posts**. Filters can be combined with a search.
- Open the three-dot menu for **See followed events**, **See my drives** and, when your organisation uses the validation workflow, **See validations list**.

## How do I filter read and unread posts?

1. Click your profile picture, select **Profile and preferences**, then open the **General** section and switch on **Unread mode**.
2. Back in the Newsfeed, click **Unread** at the top of the feed to show only the posts you have not read yet.
3. Click **All posts** to return to the full view.

Unread posts carry a **NEW** label, and a dot appears next to the group in the sidebar. Click **Mark all as read** to clear all the indicators at once.

## How do I stop a group's posts from appearing?

Unfollow the group. You stay a member and can still open the group, but its posts leave your Newsfeed and you stop receiving notifications about them, including in the daily digest email. There are two ways:

- Open the group and turn off the **Follow** switch in its header.
- On any of the group's posts, open the three-dot menu and select **Unfollow this group**.

Follow the group again at any time using the same controls.

> **Note:** Some groups cannot be unfollowed: default groups that gather all members, and groups an administrator has locked. Their **Follow** switch is greyed out.
