# Scheduling a post

## Scheduling a post
You can schedule a post so it is published at a specific date and time rather than immediately. This works for all post types including simple posts, photo galleries, polls, and checklists. You can schedule a post in any group where you are allowed to publish.

To schedule something you have already started, open it from the drafts panel and then use the **Schedule** tab. The drafts panel itself only opens and deletes drafts. See [Finding and managing my drafts](/communication/find-the-drafts).

## How do I schedule a new post?

1. Go to the Newsfeed and select **New**, then the kind of post you want: **Create a post** for a simple post, or **Create a photo gallery**, **Create a poll** or **Create a checklist**.

![The New menu on the Newsfeed panel, open on Create a post, with Create a photo gallery, Create a poll and Create a checklist below it.](/images/communication/scheduling-a-post/01-new-post-menu.png)

2. Fill in the recipients, a title, and the content.
3. Select the **Schedule** tab.

4. Click the **Pick a date** field. A calendar opens on the current month. Use the arrows or the month and year drop-downs at the top to move around, then click a day. Past days are greyed out. **Today** selects the current date, **Clear** resets your choice, and **Close** dismisses the calendar.

![The date picker open in the Schedule tab: month and year drop-downs in the header, past days greyed out, and Today / Clear / Close along the bottom, above the Pick a date and time fields.](/images/communication/scheduling-a-post/03-date-picker.png)

5. Check the time. It arrives pre-filled at **12:00**, so leave it as it is or set your own: pick from the list in 15-minute steps, or type the time straight into the field. **Clear** at the bottom of the list resets it.

The time field is pre-filled with 12:00 PM; select it and choose one of the 15-minute increments, or type a time directly.

6. Click **Schedule**. The **Publish** button becomes **Schedule** as soon as you pick a date, so the date alone is enough to schedule the post.

## What happens at the scheduled time?

Talkspirit publishes the post for you at the time you set. You are not asked to confirm it.

Two things stop that happening:

- In a group where posts are approved before they go out, a post still waiting for its reviewer is not published at its scheduled time. It goes out when it is approved. See [Publication validation process](/communication/the-validation-process).
- If the group is deleted, or the Newsfeed module is switched off for it, the post loses its schedule and becomes a plain draft again.

## How do I find a scheduled post?

1. Open the post editor from the Newsfeed.
2. On the right of the editor, open the **Scheduled posts** tab. If the panel is collapsed to icons, click the **Scheduled posts** icon first, a calendar with a clock, at the top right of the editor.

![The collapsed aside on the right of the post editor, with the calendar-with-clock icon showing its "Scheduled posts" tooltip.](/images/communication/scheduling-a-post/07-scheduled-posts-icon.png)

All your scheduled posts appear with their publication date and time.

![The My scheduled posts panel, opened from the calendar-with-clock icon, listing three scheduled posts with their date and time and a delete icon on each row.](/images/communication/scheduling-a-post/07-scheduled-posts-panel.png)

To edit a scheduled post, click on it, make your changes, and click **Schedule** to save. Click **Cancel** to discard changes and leave the original untouched.

**Note: ** the panel belongs to the post editor, so you reach it while you are creating a post, not while you are editing one that is already published.

## How do I delete a scheduled post?

In the scheduled posts panel, click the trash icon on the row you want to remove.

**Important:** this deletes the post itself, not just its schedule. It goes immediately, with no confirmation and no undo.

## Who can schedule a post?

Every member can schedule a post in any group where they are allowed to publish. Where a group manager has reserved publishing for managers, the group says so in place of the post box: *Only group managers can publish to this group*.

Scheduling comes with the Newsfeed, so it is available wherever the Newsfeed module is switched on for your organisation and for the group.
