# Recording and listening to voice messages on a computer


You can record and send voice messages from Chat on your computer, in the browser or the desktop app. Any member can record a voice message, send it in a conversation or room, and listen to the voice messages other members share. Voice messages sent from the mobile app also play on a computer.

## How do I record a voice message?

1. Open **Chat** in the navigation.
2. Open the conversation or room where you want to send the voice message.
3. Click the **microphone** icon on the right of the **Type in your message** field.

The first time you record, your browser asks for permission to use the microphone. Allow it: if the request is refused or dismissed, recording does not start and the message **Recording could not start** appears.

> **Note:** When your computer has no microphone, the icon shows as crossed out and stays disabled, with the message **No microphone detected**.

## How do I send or cancel a recording?

Once recording starts, the microphone icon is replaced by the recording controls: a red cross button, the recording time, and a green tick button.

- Click the green **tick** button to send the voice message. It is shared in the conversation as soon as the recording finishes uploading.
- Click the red **cross** button to discard the recording. Nothing is sent.

## How do I listen to a voice message?

A voice message appears in the conversation as an audio player.

1. Click the **Play** button on the left of the player. During playback it becomes a **Pause** button.
2. Drag the progress bar to jump to a specific point in the recording.

The elapsed time and the total duration display between the button and the progress bar.

## How do I delete a voice message I sent?

1. Hover over the voice message in the conversation. The message actions appear beside it.
2. Click **Other actions** (the three-dot icon), then **Delete message**.

The voice message is replaced by **This message has been deleted.** for every participant. The room's manager can also delete another member's voice message; in that case a confirmation dialog appears first, and the deleted message shows **This message has been deleted by a manager.**

> **Warning:** Deleting your own message is immediate: no confirmation appears, and the message cannot be restored.
