# Publishing, editing, or deleting a post

## Publishing, editing, or deleting a post
To publish a post, open the Newsfeed, click the **New** menu on the Newsfeed panel, choose who receives it, give it a title and write your content. Everything you do to it afterwards (edit, share, pin, delete) comes out of one menu on the post itself. This page walks through each of those, and says who is allowed to do them.

**Before you start:** you need posting rights in the group you are publishing to. In most groups every member can post; a group manager can restrict posting to group managers, or require approval first.

## What types of posts are available?

From the Newsfeed you publish one thing: a post. What varies is what you attach to it.

**Post**: a title and your content, on its own or with an attachment: a file, a photo gallery, a poll, a checklist, an external resource or an emoji. Which attachment options you see depends on what your organisation has enabled. See [Attaching files to a post](/en/communication/attaching-files-to-a-post).

Events work differently. You create an event in the Calendar, with **New event** (not from the Newsfeed) and an event carries no attachments at all. A live video or webinar is a setting inside an event, and the post it produces is marked with a red **Live** badge in the Newsfeed.

## How do I publish a post?

1. In the Newsfeed, click the **New** menu on the Newsfeed panel. The three icons beside it open the same editor with a photo gallery, a poll or a checklist already added.
2. Fill in one or more recipients, a title and your content. All three are required. The form marks them with an asterisk.
3. Click **Publish**.

Your draft is saved every 30 seconds, once it has a title, some content or an upload, not as you type, so give it a moment before you close the tab. To save without publishing, click **Save and close**; the draft is then waiting under the **Drafts** icon at the top right of the posting area.

When you reopen a post you have already published, the Publish button reads **Modify**.

## How do I schedule a post?

Scheduling is a tab in the same editor: open **Schedule**, pick a date and time, then click **Schedule** instead of Publish. Autosave stops once a post is scheduled. For the full procedure, see [Scheduling a post](/en/communication/scheduling-a-post).

## How do I share or republish a post?

Open the post's menu (the vertical three-dot icon in its top right corner) and choose:

![A published post with its three-dot menu open: Edit, Change recipients, Enable co-edition, Disable comments, Republish my post, Share, Add in a newsletter, Copy link, Set as important, Print.](/images/communication/publishing-editing-or-deleting-a-post/03-post-action-menu.png)

- **Share**: forwards the post to a group or to members. The original author stays visible, and comments are not carried over. In a secret group, only the author, group managers and administrators can share.
- **Republish my post**: duplicates the post and sends it to other recipients. Only on posts you wrote, and never on a post that is itself a share. Comments are not carried over.
- **Copy link**: copies a direct link to the post, to paste into a chat or another post.

Neither Share nor Republish appears on a post with an event attached. Both start any poll in the post from zero: the original votes are not copied.

## How do I make a post more visible?

Group managers can pin a post: open its three-dot menu and select **Pin in group**, and the post moves to the top of the group's Newsfeed. The same menu item then reads **Unpin**.

Administrators can go further and mark a post as important, which keeps it at the top of every group member's Newsfeed until they have seen it. That takes two more choices (how long the post stays important, and which icon it carries) so it has its own article: [Defining important posts](/en/communication/define-important-posts).

## How do I edit or delete a post?

To **edit** a post, open its three-dot menu and select **Edit**. Only the author can edit a post: unless the author opens it up: in the editor, the **Edition and comments** tab carries a checkbox reading **Allow all recipients to edit this post**, and on a post that is already published the menu item is **Enable co-edition**.

To **delete** a post, open its three-dot menu and select **Delete**. The author, the group's managers, and organisation administrators can all delete a post.

**Important:** deleting a post also deletes its comments, and it cannot be undone.

## Who can post?

- **In a group:** every member can post in the groups they belong to, unless a group manager has restricted posting to group managers or asked for posts to be approved first.
- **Private post:** every member can send a private post to one or more recipients. Guests can only reach members of the groups they belong to.

The Newsfeed also has to be switched on, for your organisation, and for the group.
