# Inviting members to join a group

## Inviting members to join a group

You add people to a group from the group itself, through its **Invite** panel. Depending on the group's permissions, this is open to all group members or reserved to group managers. Guest users can never add or invite anyone.

## How do I invite someone to join a group?

1. Open the group and click the **Invite** icon (a person with a plus sign) at the top right. If you do not see it, you do not have the right to add people to this group.
2. Choose what to do:
   - **Add existing users**: pick people who already have an account in your organisation.
   - **Invite new members**: invite people who are not on Talkspirit yet. They receive an invitation email and are added to this group automatically when they sign up.
   - **Invite new guests**: invite people as guests. Guests are restricted users who only access the groups they are invited into.

## Adding existing users

Add users one by one by typing the first letters of their name, or click **or paste a list of email addresses** and paste your list. Then click **Add**. The people you select become group members directly; there is no invitation for them to accept.

## Inviting new members or guests

Enter each person's **email address** (first name and last name are optional), or paste a list of addresses. New members are also added to your organisation's default groups when they sign up. New guests must be given at least one group, and the group you started from is preselected.

These two entries appear only if your organisation allows you to invite new people; administrators always can. The settings behind this, and the invitation follow-up, are covered in [Inviting new users, members, or guests](/en/administration-security/inviting-new-users-members-or-guests).

## Who can add members to a group?

An administrator sets the organisation-wide rule in **Groups settings**, under **Add and remove group members**: only group managers, or all group members. A group manager can adjust it for their own group: open the group's **Settings** panel, click **Manage permissions**, and use **Set who can add and remove members**. That option only appears when the organisation allows group managers to overwrite the default, so it is normal not to see it in some organisations.

Administrators can also add users to any group in bulk from the **Manage groups** screen; see [Managing groups](/en/administration-security/managing-groups).
