# Receiving a summary email of missed activities

## Receiving a summary email of missed activities

Talkspirit can send you a single email gathering what happened while you were away: new posts in the Newsfeed, new articles and events on the Home page, and events you have been invited to. The setting is called **Summary email of missed activities**, and the email itself arrives with the subject **Daily digest** or **Weekly digest**. New members receive it daily.

## Where the setting lives

This one is not on **Account** > **Notifications**, the page with the Structure, Goals, Projects and Meetings tabs. It sits on the classic **Profile and preferences** screen, and no entry in the left-hand navigation opens that screen directly. There are two reliable ways in.

**From inside a classic app:**

1. Open **Newsfeed**, **Chat**, **Calendar**, **Library**, **Drives** or **Groups** from the left-hand navigation.
2. Click your profile picture in the top bar, then select **Profile and preferences**.
3. Select **Notifications** in the left-hand panel.

**From an email:** every Talkspirit notification email carries a link to this screen at the bottom. In the summary email it reads **Manage content and frequency of your digest**; in other notification emails it reads **preferences**. This is the fastest route if a summary email is already sitting in your inbox.

## Choose how often you receive it

1. Scroll down the **Notifications** page to **Summary email of missed activities**.
2. Switch **Enable** on.
3. Choose **Hourly**, **Daily** or **Weekly**.
4. Click **Save** at the bottom of the page.

Your choice applies from the next send. To stop the emails, switch **Enable** off and save: the frequency is set to none and nothing further is sent.

## What the email contains

The summary is built from three apps, in this order. Each section lists up to five items, with a button to the rest when there are more.

| Section | What it lists |
|---|---|
| **Newsfeed** | Posts and comments published since you were last connected |
| **Homepage** | Articles and events published on Home pages you can see, since you last opened them |
| **Calendar** | Events you have been invited to, excluding the ones you created yourself |

Sections with nothing in them are left out, so a quiet week produces a short email rather than three empty headings.

## When it does not arrive

Four things decide whether a summary reaches you, and the first one surprises most people:

- **You have to have been away.** The summary only goes to members whose last connection is older than the period they chose. If you sign in to Talkspirit every day, a daily summary never arrives. This is what the screen means by *"If you are disconnected from Talkspirit you can receive a summary email of what you've missed."*
- **No activity, no email.** If none of the three sections has anything to show, nothing is sent.
- **Hourly is not a fixed hourly send.** It is triggered by a new Newsfeed post, and it only reaches you if you have been disconnected for at least an hour. Daily and weekly are scheduled sends.
- **Your organisation's notification email switch does not cover it.** That switch stops the emails from Structure, Goals, Projects and Meetings. The summary email is sent by a different part of the platform and keeps going. Switching it off yourself, on this screen, is the only way to stop it.

Members who have no email address on their profile start with the summary switched off, and it is not sent at all once an organisation's subscription is cancelled.
