# Hiding a chat conversation or leaving a room

You can hide a one-to-one conversation to remove it from your chat list, or leave a room to stop being a participant. Hiding is personal and reversible: no messages are deleted, and the other person's list is unchanged. Leaving a room ends your membership: the room disappears from your list and you stop receiving its messages. Both actions sit in the **More** menu of a chat row, and in the **Settings** tab of an open conversation's side panel.

## How do I hide a chat conversation?

Only one-to-one conversations can be hidden. Hiding removes the conversation from your own list; the message history is kept, and the other person is not notified.

1. Open **Chat** in the navigation bar.
2. Hover over the conversation in the **Chats** panel.
3. Click the **More** icon (three dots) that appears on the row.
4. Select **Hide conversation**.

The conversation returns to your list as soon as a new message is posted in it, or when you start a conversation with the same person again.

## How do I leave a room?

Leaving a room removes you from its participants: the room disappears from your chat list, you stop receiving its messages, and a service message in the room tells the other participants you left. To return, another participant must add you back.

1. Open **Chat** in the navigation bar.
2. Hover over the room in the **Chats** panel.
3. Click the **More** icon (three dots) that appears on the row.
4. Select **Leave room**.
5. Click **Leave** in the confirmation dialog.

> **Note:** If you are the room's administrator, another participant automatically becomes its administrator when you leave.

The chat linked to a group cannot be left on its own: its participants follow the group's members. To leave it, leave the group itself (see [Leaving a group](/en/communication/leaving-a-group)).

## What is the difference between hiding, leaving, and deleting?

- **Hide** affects only your own chat list, applies to one-to-one conversations only, and reverses itself as soon as the conversation is active again.
- **Leave** ends your participation in a room; the room and its history remain for the other participants.
- **Delete** removes a room for everyone, and only the room's administrator can do it. See [Managing a chat room](/en/communication/managing-a-chat-room).
