# Formatting a post or comment


## Formatting a post or comment
You can format the text of a post, an event description or a comment with the built-in editor. Select the text you want to format and a toolbar appears above it; in a post, you can also type **/** to insert blocks such as lists, headings or tables. Anyone who can publish or comment in a group can use formatting. Posting and commenting rights are set per group by its group managers: see [What is a group manager?](/en/communication/the-group-manager).

## How do I format a post?

1. In the Newsfeed, click **New**, then **Create a post**.
2. Write your content, then select the text you want to format. The formatting toolbar appears above the selection.
3. Click the option you want. From left to right, the toolbar offers:
   - **Text**: a menu to turn the selection into a heading (three levels), a **Quote**, a **Bullet list** or an **Ordered list**
   - **Bold** (Ctrl+B, or Cmd+B on Mac)
   - **Italic** (Ctrl+I)
   - **Underline** (Ctrl+U)
   - **Strikethrough** (Ctrl+Shift+S)
   - **Code** (Ctrl+E)
   - Text colour
   - Highlight
   - **Link**: attach a web address to the selected text

If you edit a post written in the previous editor, an older toolbar appears instead, with lists, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, quote, code and link. New posts always use the current editor.

## How do I insert lists, tables and other blocks?

Type **/** in the post editor to open the insert menu. It offers text levels and headings, emoji, mentions, quotes, bullet and ordered lists, tables, images, videos, files, separators, embeds, and links to existing posts, library pages, events and drive files. Type the first letters of a block name to filter the menu.

## How do I format a comment?

1. Click **Comment** under a post, then write your text in the **Add a comment** field.
2. Select the text to format. The same toolbar appears with a reduced set of options: the **Text** menu (quote and lists, no headings), bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, code, text colour, highlight and link.

The **/** insert menu also works in comments, limited to the same reduced set.

## Can I format an event description?

Yes, with a smaller set of options: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, bullet and ordered lists, and links.
