# Attaching files to a post in Talkspirit

## Attaching files to a post in Talkspirit
All members can attach files to posts and comments in the Newsfeed. You can upload from your computer, attach a file already stored in the Drive, or link an external resource. The maximum size per file depends on your organisation's plan: 500 MB on Standard, 1 GB on Premium and Business. Attached files are not added to the group Drive automatically: they stay on the post unless you place them there yourself.

## How do I attach a file to a post?

1. In the Newsfeed, click the **New** menu and choose **Create a post**.
2. In the post draft, click the **paperclip** icon.
3. Click **My computer** and choose a file. If your organisation has switched on a cloud connector, **Google Drive**, **Dropbox**, **Onedrive** or **Box** appears in the same menu.
4. Fill in the recipients, a title and your content, then click **Publish**.

You can also drag and drop files straight into the post draft.

To copy an attachment into the group's Drive afterwards, click **Place into Drives section** on the attachment of the published post and pick a folder. A link is kept between the attachment and the Drive file, so changes to the file also apply to the attachment.

## How do I attach an external resource link?

1. In the post draft, click the **paperclip** icon and select **External resource**.
2. In the **Share an external resource** window, fill in the **Resource name** and **Resource url** fields.
3. Click **Add file** to attach it.
4. Click **Publish**.

## How do I share a file in a comment?

1. Click in the **Add a comment** field under any post.
2. Click the **paperclip** icon next to the comment field.
3. Choose **My computer**, **External resource**, or, if your organisation allows it, **Code snippet**. The cloud connectors appear here too when they are switched on.

> **Note:** Event drafts carry no file attachments. To share a file about an event, attach it to a post or a comment instead.

## How do I attach a Drive file to a post?

1. Go to the **Drive** and click the file you want to share.
2. Click **Other actions** (the three-dot menu) and select **Attach to a post**.
3. A new post draft opens with the file attached.
4. Fill in the recipients, a title and your content, then click **Publish**.

## Who can attach files, and how large can they be?

Anyone who can post or comment in a group can attach files: there is no separate attachment permission. Posting and commenting rights are set per group by its group managers. See [Publishing, editing, or deleting a post](/en/communication/publishing-editing-or-deleting-a-post).

File attachments come with the Newsfeed module on every Talkspirit plan. Sharing from Google Drive, Dropbox, Onedrive or Box requires an administrator to activate the connector for your organisation first; the connectors are switched off by default.
