# Archive a group

## Archive a group

By archiving a group, you hide the group and all its content from members without deleting anything permanently. An archived group can be restored later with its posts, chat room, and Drive documents intact. Group managers can archive the groups they manage; administrators and groups administrators can archive any group.

## What happens when a group is archived?

When a group is archived:

- The group disappears from its members' group lists, and its posts no longer appear in the newsfeed.
- Posts from the group can still be found with the search engine. They carry an **(Archived)** label.
- Members can no longer post in the group, comment, react, or add labels to its posts, and existing comments can no longer be edited or deleted.
- Checklists on the group's posts are frozen: items cannot be ticked, and assignees cannot be added or removed.
- The group's chat room is hidden.
- The group's Drive documents are no longer accessible.
- Posts from the group can still be added to or removed from your favourites.

> **Warning:** Two effects of archiving are permanent, even if you restore the group later: the group's integrations are deleted, and guests are removed from the group. Set them up again after restoring the group if you need them.

## Archive a group from its settings

1. Open the group and click the **Settings** cogwheel icon in the group's side panel.
2. Click **Archive this group**.
3. Click **Archive** to confirm.

## Archive a group from Manage groups

Administrators and groups administrators can also archive any group from **Administration → Manage groups**:

1. Find the group in the list.
2. Click the cogwheel icon on the group's row.
3. Select **Archive group**.
4. Click **Archive** to confirm.

Once archived, the group's image is greyed out and **(Archived)** appears next to its title. The group also leaves the default **Manage groups** list: select **Archived groups** in the drop-down filter at the top left of the list to display archived groups.

## Restore an archived group

Restoring is done from **Administration → Manage groups**, so it requires administrator or groups administrator rights.

1. Go to **Manage groups** and select **Archived groups** in the drop-down filter.
2. Click the cogwheel icon on the group's row.
3. Select **Restore group**.
4. Click **Restore** to confirm.

The group becomes visible to its members again, its posts return to the newsfeed, and its chat room and Drive documents are accessible again. Integrations and guest memberships are not restored.
