# Allowing the microphone in a videoconference


Talkspirit's videoconferencing service runs in a web browser. To speak and be heard in a meeting, you must grant the browser permission to access your microphone. In most cases, a pop-up appears automatically when you join a room. If it does not appear, you can grant access manually through your browser settings.

## Who can authorise the microphone?

Anyone joining a videoconference can grant microphone access. This is a browser permission, so no administrator rights or special role are required.

## How do I allow the microphone in Google Chrome?

When you join a room, a permission pop-up appears. Click **Allow**.

If the pop-up does not appear:

1. Click the **padlock icon** on the left of the URL bar.
2. Scroll to the **Microphone** setting in the drop-down menu.
3. Select **Allow**.

Alternatively, click **Site Settings**, find **Microphone**, and set it to **Allow**.

## How do I allow the microphone in Safari?

When you join a room, a permission pop-up appears. Click **Allow**.

If the pop-up does not appear:

1. Click the **Safari** menu at the top of your screen.
2. Select **Settings for this website**.
3. Find the **Microphone** drop-down and select **Allow**.

## How do I allow the microphone in Microsoft Edge?

When you join a room, a pop-up requesting microphone and camera permissions appears. Click **Allow**.

If the pop-up does not appear:

1. Click the **padlock icon** on the left of the URL bar.

3. Select **Allow**.

## How do I allow the microphone in Mozilla Firefox?

When you join a room, a microphone permission pop-up appears. Click **Allow**.

If the pop-up does not appear:

1. Click the **crossed-out microphone icon** on the left of the URL bar.
2. Click **Connection Secure**, then **More Information**.
3. Go to the **Permissions** tab.
4. Uncheck **Default Permissions** next to **Use the microphone**.
5. Select **Allow**.
