# The Projects module

The Projects module is where you track work across your organisation in Talkspirit. It brings tasks and project boards together in one place: you create tasks, assign them to members, roles or circles, and follow their progress in four views. Every task you are assigned appears in your **My tasks** view, and can also sit on a shared **project board**. An organisation administrator activates the app before members can use it.

Before members can open the app, an organisation administrator activates it from the Administration. See [Activating the Projects module](/en/collaboration/how-to-activate-projects).

## What can you track?

The unit of work is the **task**. Each task carries an assignee, a due date, labels, a priority and a status: **To Do**, **In Progress**, **Done** or **Blocked**. A task can stand alone in your personal list or sit on a **project board**, a shared container for a body of related work.

Your **My tasks** view gathers every task assigned to you across all circles and roles, with an **Inbox** for anything you have not yet sorted. You can group tasks into your own sections to organise them your way. Actions and Projects are now unified into this single task model: see [New Projects module Overview](/en/collaboration/new-projects-app-overview) for what changed, and [My Tasks section](/en/collaboration/my-tasks-section) for the personal view.

## How is a project board organised?

A project board holds **sections** and tasks. A section groups related tasks and shows as a column in the **Board** view, for example **To Do**, **In Progress** and **Done**. Create one with **Add section**.

You open the same board in four views: **Board**, **List**, **Timeline** and **Calendar**. See [List, Board, Timeline and Calendar project views](/en/collaboration/kanban-hierarchy-list-timeline-task-board-views).

Archiving or deleting a section does not delete its tasks. Archived sections and their tasks move to the archive, where you can restore them. Deleting a section leaves its tasks in place, unassigned from any section.

## What is on a task?

Open a task to see and edit its details:

- **Assignees**: the members, roles or circles the task is expected from.
- **Due date** and **start date**, with optional recurrence.
- **Labels**: colour-coded keywords shared across the board.
- **Priority**: **High**, **Medium** or **Low**.
- **Status**: **To Do**, **In Progress**, **Done** or **Blocked**.
- **Sub-tasks**, grouped into lists.
- **Attachments**, a **progress bar**, and a **Discussion** panel with comments and an activity log.

An overdue task shows a **days late** badge beside its due date: amber from one to seven days late, then red beyond seven days. The badge clears once the task is marked **Done**.

For the day-to-day actions on a task, see [Adding, editing, archiving, and deleting tasks](/en/collaboration/how-to-add-edit-archive-and-delete-tasks). To control who is told about a task, see [Project notifications](/en/getting-started/projects-notifications).

## Who can see a project?

Every project board has one of three privacy levels:

- **Public**: everyone in the organisation can find and view the board.
- **Private**: only project members can view it. The board still appears in the directory, but its content is restricted.
- **Secret**: only project members can view it, and the board is hidden from the directory.

The members, roles and circles you add to a board become its members. To open a board up beyond its own members, see [Open collaboration on projects](/en/collaboration/what-is-open-collaboration-on-projects). To create a board tied to one of your groups, see [Group projects](/en/communication/group-projects).
