# Moving and sharing a document from the Drive

You can store documents in your personal drive (My Drive) or in group drives. From My Drive, you share individual files with specific members or move them into a group drive. In group drives, permissions are set at group level: all members can read files, and administrators control who can create, edit, and delete them.

## How do I share a file from My Drive?

1. Go to **Drives** and select **My Drive**.
2. Select the file you want to share.
3. Choose the **Share** option.
4. Select the member you want to share the file with from the list.
5. Select **Share** to confirm.

Once shared, a sharing icon appears on the file. Hover over the icon to see every member the file is shared with. The file appears in the **Shared with me** section for each recipient.

Members you share a file with can access, edit, delete, and re-share the document. Only the owner cannot be removed from access. To remove a member, open the **Share** option, select the cross next to their name, then select **Save changes**.

> **Note:** Guests can only share files with members of their own groups and do not see the full member list.

## How do I move a file from My Drive to a group drive?

Only the file owner can move a file from My Drive to a group drive. The **Move to** option is not available for files in the **Shared with me** section.

1. Select the file in **My Drive**.
2. Choose **Move to**.
3. Select the destination group drive.
4. Select **Move here** to confirm.

Once moved, the file becomes accessible to all members of that group according to the group's permission settings.

If the destination group restricts document creation and editing to administrators only, and you are not an administrator of that group, the group drive appears greyed out and cannot be selected.

## How do I move a file between group drives?

If you have editing permissions in a group drive, you can move a file to another group drive or to your personal drive.

- Moving a file from group A's drive to group B's drive makes it accessible to group B members only. Group A members lose access.
- Moving a file from a group drive to My Drive makes it accessible to you only. You become the file owner and can then share it with other members.

> **Note:** The **Share** option does not exist in group drives, where permissions are managed at group level. You cannot share a group drive file with someone who is not a member of that group.
