# List, Board, Timeline and Calendar project views

## List, Board, Timeline and Calendar project views

The Projects module shows your tasks in four views: **List**, **Board**, **Timeline** and **Calendar**. Switch between them with the toggle at the top left of **My tasks** and of every project board. All four read the same tasks and obey the same filters, so you are only changing how the work is laid out. Talkspirit remembers the view you last used on each board.

## Where do I find the views?

Open **Projects** in the navigation rail. **My tasks** gathers everything assigned to you and opens in **List** view. **All projects** lists the boards you can reach, and a board opens in **Board** view. The toggle sits at the top left of both pages, and your choice is stored per person and per board, so it survives a refresh or a trip to another app.

**Note:** whoever creates or manages a project chooses which of the four views it offers, and at least one always stays enabled. If a view is missing from the toggle, it has been switched off for that board.

## What is the List view?

The List view is a table: one row per task, grouped by **Section** by default. Columns cover **Assignee**, **Labels**, **Priority**, **Due Date** and **Attachments** out of the box, and **Display** lets you show, hide and reorder the rest, including **Task ID**, **Start Date**, **Section**, **Status**, **Effort** and **Progress**. Click a column header to sort. Sub-tasks stay folded under their parent until you expand the row.

## What is the Board view?

The Board view lays tasks out as cards in columns, so the state of the work reads at a glance. The columns follow whatever you group by, and by default that is the board's **Sections**. Drag a card into another column to change that property on the task: grouped by **Completion** the columns become the to-do and done piles, grouped by **Priority** a card you drag is re-prioritised, grouped by **Assignee** it picks up the new assignee.

## What is the Timeline view?

The Timeline view draws each task as a bar running from its **start date** to its **due date**, across a scale you can zoom from weeks to quarters. Drag a bar sideways to move both dates at once, or drag either end to change just that one. The change saves as soon as you release. A task needs both dates to appear on the chart, so tasks with one date or none are listed underneath it.

## What is the Calendar view?

The Calendar view places the work on a real calendar, in **Month**, **Week** or **Day**. A task with both dates stretches across every day it spans, so you can see where it collides with the rest of the week. Its **Display** menu decides what shares the grid: **Tasks**, **Goals**, **Meetings** and **Tasks without dates**, each with its own scope, for example all tasks or only the ones assigned to you.

## How do I search and filter tasks?

Every view shares one toolbar. The search box matches task titles. **Filter** opens with five quick filters, **Just my tasks**, **Due this week**, **Due next week**, **Completed tasks** and **Incomplete tasks**, and **Add filter** offers the full set: **Completion status**, **Assignee**, **Due date**, **Start date**, **Priority**, **Label** and **Task ID**. The **Assignee** filter has separate tabs for **Members**, **Roles** and **Circles**, so you can filter on the role or circle a task is assigned to rather than on a person.

![The Filter panel open on a project board: a Quick filters row with Just my tasks, Due this week, Due next week, Completed tasks and Incomplete tasks, and the Add filter menu listing Completion status, Assignee, Due date, Start date, Priority, Label and Task ID.](/images/collaboration/kanban-hierarchy-list-timeline-task-board-views/05-filter-panel.png)

**Note:** in **My tasks** the list differs slightly. It drops **Task ID** and adds **Project** and **Source**, so you can separate the tasks you filed yourself from the ones assigned to you.

## How do I group tasks?

**Group** collects the tasks in the current view under headings, and **Then** adds a second level inside each one. On a project board you can group by **Section**, **Completion**, **Priority**, **Assignee**, **Created by**, **Role**, **Circle**, **Due date**, **Label**, **Created on**, **Start date** or **Goal**. In **My tasks** the choices are **Assignee**, **Completion**, **Created on**, **Due date**, **Start date**, **Label** and **Project**.

## How do I hide tasks that are already done?

Open **Filter** and pick the **Incomplete tasks** quick filter. Completed tasks drop out of every view until you clear it, and **Completed tasks** does the opposite. For finer control, add a **Completion status** filter and choose **Done** or **Not done**. To keep everything on screen but separated, group by **Completion** instead: finished tasks then collect under their own heading.
