# Duplicating a project board

Duplicating a project board creates a new, independent board from an existing one. You name the copy, then choose what to bring across: its sections (the columns), its tasks, and its members. The board's description, privacy level, and permission settings are always copied. You can duplicate a board only when you can configure it, which means being its owner or an administrator.

## How do I duplicate a board?

1. Open the **Projects** section, or open the board you want to copy.
2. Open the three-dots menu on the board and select **Duplicate**.
3. In the **Duplicate Project** dialog, type a name in **New Project Name**. It is prefilled with "Duplicate - " followed by the original name.
4. Under **Duplicate options**, select what to copy: **Sections** (the columns, selected by default), **Tasks** (cleared by default), and **Project assignees** (the board's members, cleared by default).
5. Select **Duplicate**. The new board opens.

> **Warning:** Tasks are copied only within their sections. To bring tasks across, keep **Sections** selected. If you clear **Sections** but select **Tasks**, the copy is created with no tasks.

## What is copied?

The copy always keeps the original board's name (with your changes), description, privacy level, and permission settings. What else carries across depends on the options you select:

- **Sections** copies the board's columns, with their names, colours, and settings.
- **Tasks** copies each task's title, description, status, priority, start and due dates, estimated duration, and subtask structure. Task assignees are not copied.
- **Project assignees** copies the board's members and their roles.

You are added as the owner of the new board.
