# Adding, editing, or deleting a task due date

## Adding, editing, or deleting a task due date
You can set due dates on tasks to keep projects on track and deadlines visible. Add, change, or remove a due date from the task itself, or from the List, Timeline and Calendar views. Due date changes are recorded in the task's **Activity** tab. Tasks live in the **Projects** app, and you need access to a project you can edit.

## How do I add a due date to a task?

1. Open the task.
2. In the task panel, click the **Dates** row. While no date is set the button reads **No due date**. Empty fields are collapsed by default, so if the **Dates** row is not visible, first click **Show hidden** beneath the task properties.
3. On the **Due Date** tab of the picker, select the date.

## How do I change a task's due date?

Open the task and click the date on the **Dates** row. The picker reopens on the **Due Date** tab, and you select a new date.

You can also change it without opening the task:

- **In List view**: click the due date in the task's row. The cell only appears once the task has a due date, and it is not editable on a task marked Done.
- **In Timeline or Calendar view**: drag the task. See [How do I use the Projects Timeline view?](/collaboration/how-to-use-projects-timeline-view).
- **On several tasks at once**: select the tasks and use **Set due date**.

Board view is the exception: the due date on a card is plain text there, so clicking it opens the task instead of a date picker.

## How do I delete a task's due date?

1. Open the task.
2. Click the **Dates** row to open the date picker.
3. On the **Due Date** tab, click the small **x** beside the date.

**Important:** the **Clear** button in the same picker removes the start date as well as the due date. Use the **x** when you only want the due date gone.

## How do I track due date changes?

Due date changes appear in the **Activity** tab of the **Discussion** panel, on the right of the task. In the narrow side panel the same panel sits along the bottom instead.

**Note:** changes made within the same minute are grouped into a single Activity entry, so two quick edits show up as one.
