# Archive and restore a project board

You archive a project board from its three-dots menu with **Archive**, and you bring it back with **Unarchive**. An archived project leaves the projects list and its tasks leave every view, but nothing is deleted: the project, its sections, its tasks and its members are all kept. To find an archived project again, open the projects list and switch on the **Archived** quick filter.

You need the **Owner** or **Editor** role on the project to archive or restore it. Contributors and Viewers do not see these actions. An organisation administrator who is not on the project uses **Join as admin** first: see [Manage project boards as an administrator](/en/collaboration/administrate-project-boards-as-an-admin).

## Archive a project board

1. Open the project board.
2. Click the three-dots menu in the top-right corner.
3. Under **Admin**, select **Archive**.
4. In the **Archive Project** dialog, confirm with **Archive**.

The toast **Project archived successfully** appears, and Talkspirit takes you to the projects list filtered on archived projects. The same **Archive** entry sits in the row menu of each project in the projects list and in the menu of each project card. From the list, the project is archived as soon as you select the entry, with no confirmation dialog. To archive several projects at once, select them in the list and click **Archive** in the bulk-actions bar; projects you cannot configure are skipped.

## What happens to an archived project?

The project and everything in it are kept, but hidden from day-to-day views:

- The project disappears from the projects list and from the Projects entry of the navigation rail. It stays reachable by its link.
- Every section and every task of the project is archived with it. Its tasks leave **My tasks** and the Cockpit.
- Who can see the project does not change: its privacy and its members are untouched.
- Members assigned directly to the project receive the notification **Project archived**, except the person who archived it.
- Opening the project shows an **Archived** badge next to its name and, in place of the views, the message **This project is archived** with its task count. The **Archived items** entry of the menu still lists the tasks, so you can open any of them.
- An archived task opens read-only. It states that it belongs to an archived project, its fields are locked, and it accepts no new comments. Nothing can be restored task by task while the project is archived.

## Find archived projects

1. Open **Projects** from the navigation rail.
2. Click **Filter**.
3. Under **Quick filters**, switch on **Archived**.

The list now shows archived projects only. In the list view, an archive-box icon precedes each name; on project cards, the label **Archived** appears under the name. Clearing the filter returns you to active projects.

## Restore an archived project

1. Find the project under the **Archived** quick filter, or open it from its link.
2. Open its three-dots menu.
3. Select **Unarchive**.

There is no confirmation step. The toast **Project unarchived successfully** appears, the project returns to the projects list, and its sections and tasks come back into their views. In the list, **Unarchive** is also available in the bulk-actions bar when you select several archived projects.

> **Note:** Restoring a project restores every archived task it holds, including tasks that were archived individually before the project was archived. Check **Archived items** afterwards if some of them should stay archived.

Archived projects are the only ones that offer **Delete** in their row menu, next to **Unarchive**.

> **Warning:** Deleting a project is permanent and cannot be undone. Restore the project instead if you may need its tasks again.
