# Configure your project board

You configure a project board from its **Settings** panel: open the board, click the three-dots menu, and select **Settings**. From there you set the board's privacy, control who can assign tasks, link sections to task statuses, and choose which views and card fields appear. Only a board **Owner** or **Admin** can open these settings.

## Who can change board settings?

You need to be an **Owner** or an **Admin** of the board. Whoever creates a project board becomes its Owner. Owners and Admins can grant the Admin role to other members from **Manage access**. Contributors and Viewers can work on the board but cannot open the Settings panel.

## Open the settings panel

1. Open your project board.
2. Click the three-dots menu in the top-right corner.
3. Under **Admin**, select **Settings**.

The **Edit project** panel opens on the **General** tab.

## Configure the board

The **General** tab holds the main settings:

- **Privacy**: set the board to **Public**, **Private**, or **Secret**. Public boards are visible to everyone in the organisation. Private and Secret boards are visible to board members only, and Secret boards are also hidden from the project directory.
- **Allow section creation**: when off, board members cannot add new sections.
- **Workflow automation**: link a section to the **To do** or **Done** status. A task moved into a linked section takes that status, and setting a task's status moves it into the linked section.
- **Task assignee limit**: allow multiple assignees, one member per task, or a single assignee per task.
- **Who can assign tasks**: choose **All members** or **Admins only**. This controls who can assign existing tasks and is separate from creating tasks.

Three more tabs control how the board is displayed:

- **Visualisations**: choose which views are available (**Board**, **List**, **Timeline**, **Calendar**, **Gantt**). At least one view must stay enabled.
- **Default card display**: choose which fields appear on cards by default.
- **Defaults**: set the default sort, grouping, and filters.

Save your changes on the **General** tab with **Update**.

## Appoint board admins

To make another member an Admin, or to change who can view and edit the board, open the three-dots menu and select **Manage access**. Each member, role, or circle you add is given a board role: **Owner**, **Admin**, **Contributor**, or **Viewer**.
