# Manage project boards as an administrator

Organisation administrators configure project boards for the whole organisation from **Administration → Projects**. From there you decide whether members see boards they are not assigned to, how boards are created for circles, whether board layouts are locked, and which default templates new boards start from. These settings apply across every board. Settings that affect a single board are managed by that board's own administrators.

## Who can manage these settings?

Only organisation administrators can change organisation-wide project board settings. Members and guests cannot see them. Settings that affect a single board, such as its privacy or who may change its layout, are managed by that board's administrators: see [Configure your project board](/en/collaboration/administrate-your-project-board-as-a-member).

## Where do the settings live?

1. Go to **Administration → Projects**.
2. Select **Configure in the module**.
3. Use the **General** tab for organisation-wide rules and the **Templates** tab for default board templates.

## How do I show all boards to members?

By default, members see only the boards they are assigned to. The **Show all projects** section controls this. On the **General** tab, enable **Show unassigned projects to all users** to let members see every board across the organisation, including boards they are not assigned to.

## How do I control board creation?

The **Project Creation** section on the **General** tab sets how boards are created for circles:

- **Enable automatic project creation for new circles** creates a board automatically whenever a circle is created.
- **Enable multiple project creation per circle** lets a circle hold more than one board. This option is available only while automatic creation is enabled.

The word "circles" follows your organisation's terminology and can be renamed under **Administration → Terminology**.

## How do I lock board edition?

The **Lock project edition** section freezes board structure across the organisation. On the **General** tab, enable **Lock edition** to prevent everyone, including administrators, from changing the layout and settings of any board. Existing boards are locked in their current state, and the setting is reversible.

## How do I set default board templates?

The **Templates** tab defines the templates new boards can start from. A template is a named structure made of **sections**, the columns tasks are grouped into. For each section you set its name, colour, icon, and an optional task limit. A section can also carry a **linked status**: tasks moved into a section whose linked status is **Done** are marked complete automatically, and marking a task Done moves it into that section.

To create one, open the **Templates** tab and select **Add template**, or select **Browse Gallery** to start from a ready-made template.
