# Recommended image sizes for the Talkspirit home page


Use images of 1040 x 480 pixels on the Talkspirit home page, whatever the width of the module. Talkspirit delivers every home page image in a single 1040 x 480 pixel format, and the module then displays it at the width of its column, so one size fits the Carousel, Article, Event and Media modules alike. JPEG and PNG files are accepted.

## What image size should I use?

Prepare every image at 1040 x 480 pixels. Talkspirit crops and scales each uploaded home page image to this format, so a 1040 x 480 original reaches your readers exactly as you framed it, while an image with other proportions loses its edges to the crop. A larger image with the same proportions also works: it is reduced to 1040 x 480.

The Carousel, Article and Event modules accept JPEG and PNG images. The Media module accepts the same image formats plus video files: see [Publishing a media item on Talkspirit](/en/communication/publishing-a-media).

## Why does one size fit every module width?

The module width changes how large the image is displayed, not the size you should upload. A home page is built from rows, and each of the six row formats splits the row into one, two or three columns; the module scales its 1040 x 480 image down to the width of its column. Column widths are rounded:

| **Hero section** | 100% |
| **Two section** | 50% / 50% |
| **Three section** | 33% / 33% / 33% |
| **Left sided section** | 33% / 66% |
| **Right sided section** | 66% / 33% |
| **Two sided section** | 25% / 50% / 25% |

## Can I put text on the image?

Avoid text on home page images. The image adapts to the module width and to the reader's screen size, and it is not always displayed in its entirety, so text on the image can be cut off or become too small to read. Put your message in the module's title and description fields instead.
