# Publishing app shortcuts on the Homepage

With the **Apps** module, you give members one-click access to your organisation's tools directly from a home page. The module displays shortcuts to applications you pick from the organisation's apps directory, under an optional title. It appears in the module chooser only when the apps directory contains at least one activated app: to enable the directory and activate apps, see [Configuring the organisation apps directory](/en/administration-security/configure-an-organization-apps-directory).

> **Role prerequisite:** You need to be a Homepage manager. An administrator designates Homepage managers in **Administration → Apps → Home**; administrators are not Homepage managers by default and must add themselves to manage the page.

## How do I add app shortcuts to a home page?

1. Open the home page where the shortcuts will appear.
2. Click an empty column in a row and select **Apps**. To create a new row first, click the **+** above or below an existing row and pick a layout.

3. In the editing window, enter a **Title** for the module. The title is optional.
4. In the **Apps** field, select the apps to display. The list offers every activated app in the directory.
5. Set the **Publication status** to **Draft** or **Published**, then click **Add** to save a draft or **Publish** to publish immediately.

You cannot publish the module without at least one activated app selected; save it as a draft instead. The shortcuts are visible to everyone who sees the page: unlike the Article module, the Apps module has no audience selector.

## What do members see?

Members see the module title and its shortcuts, and each shortcut opens the application it links to. Members cannot change which shortcuts appear: only Homepage managers edit the module, through the cog menu on it (**Edit**, **Move** or **Delete**).

The module only ever shows activated apps. When an administrator deactivates an app in the apps directory, its shortcut disappears from the module for members; in the editing window the app stays listed but greyed out, marked "This application was disabled by an administrator". When every app in the module is deactivated, the whole module is hidden from members, and managers see a warning in its place inviting them to add apps or delete the module.
