# Managing and publishing the Homepage

## Managing and publishing the Homepage

On the Homepage, designated managers create and publish editorial pages for chosen audiences within the organisation. Managers can create several pages, build layouts from six row formats, and fill the columns with modules: articles, events, carousels, media, app shortcuts, and referent contacts. Every page and every module stays in draft until a manager publishes it.

## How do I become a Homepage manager?

An administrator designates Homepage managers from **Administration** → **Home**, under **Select Home manager(s)**. Administrators are not Homepage managers by default: to manage content, they must add themselves to the list. The designation flow is covered in [Activating the Homepage](/en/administration-security/activating-the-homepage).

Once designated, a **Home** entry appears at the top of the left-hand navigation sidebar, and a **Home** section appears in the Administration menu.

## How do I create a page?

From **Administration** → **Home**, click **+ Add a page**. On the Homepage itself, click the **+** button at the end of the page tabs.

In the **Create a page** window, define:

- The **Page title**
- **Who can see this page**: **Allow all** (members and guest users), **Allow all members** (guest users excluded), or **Allow selected members**, added one by one or through a people set when your plan includes people sets
- The **Page status**: **Published** or **Draft**

A new page opens on a gallery of ready-made templates: apply one, preview it first, or click **Start from scratch** to build the layout yourself. Renaming, reordering, and deleting pages are covered in [Creating, editing, and deleting home pages](/en/administration-security/create-modify-delete-a-home-portal-on-the-home-page).

## How do I build the page layout?

### Insert a row

Click the round **+** button above or below a row and choose one of the 6 row formats: they combine one, two, or three columns of different widths. On an empty page, the same format selector appears under **Start building your page**. There is no limit to the number of rows.

### Edit or delete a row

Click **Edit row** on a row to change its format: existing content is redistributed into the new columns. Click the **trash can** next to **Edit row** and confirm to delete the row.

> **Warning:** Deleting a row permanently deletes every module it contains.

## How do I add content modules?

Click inside a column and choose a module under **Insert a module**:

- **Article**: publish static information
- **Event**: publish an event with a date and a place
- **Carousel**: display up to 6 articles in a rotating section
- **Media**: publish a single image, with an optional title, description, and link (see [Publishing an article on the Homepage](/en/communication/publishing-an-article) for the shared fields)
- **Apps**: shortcuts to the organisation's apps, shown only when the app directory contains apps
- **Referent**: highlight contact people picked from the organisation's member list

To edit or delete a module, click its **cogwheel** and select **Edit** or **Delete**. To move it, select **Move**, then click **Move here** at the target position in the page.

### Publish an article or an event

Select the **Article** module and fill in the editing window. The field-level details, the draft and publish states, the audience rules, and the YouTube thumbnail option are covered in [Publishing an article on the Homepage](/en/communication/publishing-an-article). The **Event** module uses the same fields plus a **Date** (a day and an hour) and a **Place**.

### Publish a carousel

Click the **Carousel** module button. Where a carousel may go depends on the row format: it fits the hero and two-section formats anywhere, only the wide column of the sided formats, and never a three-section row. A column that cannot take it shows the option disabled with "Carousel doesnt fit in this column", and each page is limited to one carousel. The carousel always sits at the top of its column. Add up to 6 items using the same fields as the Article module, including an image or a video per item.

To manage carousel items, open the **cogwheel** of the Carousel module: the management window lists the items with **+ Add new article**, a cogwheel to edit each item, and a trash can to delete it. The carousel rotates on its own every few seconds and pauses while your cursor is over it; automatic rotation switches off whenever any item is a video, and the previous and next arrows appear as soon as it holds more than one item.

## How do I publish the homepage to users?

A page becomes visible to its audience when its status is **Published**; draft modules stay hidden even on a published page. Go to **Administration** → **Home**, click the **cogwheel** next to the page, select **Edit page**, and set the **Page status** to **Published**.

To check the result before and after publishing, open the Homepage and switch the view selector from **Manager view** to **Member view** or **Guest view**.
