# Find a member's email address

## Find a member's email address

Open the **Members** app, click the person, and read their address under **Contact details** on the **Info** tab. A copy button sits next to it. Any signed-in member can do this for any colleague. What is reserved to administrators is *searching* the organisation by address, and that restriction is deliberate.

## Look up one person

1. Open **Members** from the navigation rail.
2. Find the person by name, using the search box at the top right if the list is long.
3. Click their card or row. A detail panel opens.
4. Select the **Info** tab.
5. Read the address under **Contact details**, and click the copy icon beside it to put it on your clipboard.

If the panel shows **No email** instead, that person joined without an email address. Nothing is missing and nothing is broken: the product supports accounts identified by a code rather than an address.

## Read several at once

Switch the Members app to the **List** view using the first of the three view buttons above the list. The list carries an **Email** column beside each name, alongside **Status** and **Role**. Sort by name, or narrow the list with **Filter**, and read the addresses you need from the column.

The Email column is hidden on narrow screens, so use a full-width window rather than a phone.

Administrators see the same column in **Administration > People > Users**, next to the Groups and Last seen columns, on the screen where they also change roles.

## Who can see what

Be clear with your organisation about this, because it surprises people: **the Email column is not reserved to administrators.** Any member who opens the Members app reads every colleague's address there, and no setting hides the column.

Two things *are* restricted:

- **Searching by address.** Typing a full address into a search to discover whether it belongs to someone in the organisation is refused for anyone who is not an administrator. The product treats that as a way of testing addresses against your organisation, and blocks it on the server.
- **Getting the whole list in one file.** There is no export button on the Users screen in the new Administration console today. If you need member data as a spreadsheet, see [Exporting my organisation's data as an admin](/en/administration-security/export-your-organisations-data-as-an-administrator).

> **Note:** Copying addresses out of the member list to build a mailing list falls outside what the product is designed for, and your organisation's data-protection obligations still apply to anything you take out of it.
