# Changing or adding an owner of my organisation

An organisation owner is an administrator with the highest level of control over your organisation. You grant owner status to an administrator from **Administration → Users**, using the actions menu on their row. Adding an owner does not remove the existing one, so an organisation can have several owners at once.

## Prerequisites

- You must be an organisation owner yourself to grant or remove owner status.
- The person you promote must already be an administrator. An owner is a special administrator, so the **Set as Owner** action appears only on members who already hold the administrator role.

## How do I make an administrator an owner?

1. Select your profile picture, then **Administration**.
2. In the sidebar, open **Users**.
3. Find the administrator you want to promote, then select the actions menu at the end of their row.
4. Select **Set as Owner**.

An **Owner** badge appears next to their role and a confirmation message reports that the member was promoted. The change applies immediately, with no separate save step.

## How do I remove an owner?

1. In **Administration → Users**, find the owner you want to change.
2. Select the actions menu at the end of their row, then select **Remove as Owner**.

The member keeps their administrator role and loses only the owner status.

> **Note:** An organisation must always keep at least one active owner. **Remove as Owner** is blocked when it would remove the last remaining owner, and the same protection prevents you from demoting, suspending, or anonymising your last owner.
