# Allowing users to pin comments

## Allowing users to pin comments
Pinning a comment moves it to the top of a post's comment thread with a **Pinned** label, so nobody misses it. As an administrator, you choose who is allowed to pin comments for the whole organisation, and you can let group managers redefine that permission group by group.

## How do I configure comment pinning permissions?

1. Go to **Administration**.
2. Under **Apps**, click **Newsfeed**.
3. In the **Allow comments pin** section, choose between:
   - **Only administrators**: administrators are the only people who can pin comments. This is the default.
   - **Post owners, group managers and administrators**: the author of the post and the managers of the group it was published in can also pin comments.
4. Click **Save**.

## Can group managers override the pinning setting?

Yes, if you allow it. In the same **Allow comments pin** section, switch on **Allow group managers to overwrite this permission** and click **Save**. Group managers then find a **Set who can pin a comment** option under **Manage permissions** in the settings of each group they manage, and can pick a different rule for that group.

While the switch is off, that option does not appear in any group's settings. This is expected, not a bug: every group follows the organisation-wide permission, and saving the Newsfeed settings applies it to all groups again. The other per-group permissions are covered in [Manage all groups as an administrator](/en/administration-security/managing-groups).

## What are the rules for pinning comments?

- Only **one comment per thread** can be pinned at a time. Pinning another comment replaces the currently pinned one.
- Administrators can pin and unpin comments on any post, whichever option is selected.
- On posts sent directly to people rather than published in a group, the post owner can pin a comment only when **Post owners, group managers and administrators** is selected.
