# Format text in a Homepage item description

The description field of an Article, Event or Carousel module on a home page opens a rich text editor. A toolbar appears over selected text for bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, code, colours and links, and the `/` command inserts lists, tables, separators and emojis. Rich text applies only to the description: module titles are plain text. For the modules themselves, see [Talkspirit Homepage overview](/en/administration-security/the-homepage).

> **Note:** You need to be a Homepage manager to edit home pages. An administrator designates Homepage managers in **Administration → Apps → Home**.

## How do I format text?

Select the text you want to format. A toolbar appears above the selection:

- **Bold**: `Cmd+B` (macOS) / `Ctrl+B` (Windows)
- **Italic**: `Cmd+I` / `Ctrl+I`
- **Underline**: `Cmd+U` / `Ctrl+U`
- **Strikethrough**: `Cmd+Shift+S` / `Ctrl+Shift+S`
- **Code**: `Cmd+E` / `Ctrl+E`
- **Font color** and **Highlight color**: colour the text or its background
- **Link**: `Cmd+K` / `Ctrl+K`, then enter the URL
- **Text** (the drop-down on the left): turn the current paragraph into a **Quote**, a **Bullet list** or an **Ordered list**

Headings are not available in item descriptions: the module title carries the emphasis.

## How do I add a list?

Type `/` in the description and choose **Bullet list** or **Ordered list** from the menu.

> **Tip:** The editor also converts typing shortcuts at the start of a line: `-` and a space starts a bullet list, `1.` and a space starts an ordered list, and `>` and a space starts a quote.

## How do I add a table?

Type `/` and choose **Table** from the menu. A table of 2 rows by 2 columns appears.

### How do I edit a table?

- **Add a row or column:** point at the table and click the **+** bar along its bottom edge (row) or its right edge (column).
- **Insert at a specific position:** point at a cell and click the handle above its column or to the left of its row, then choose **Insert left**, **Insert right**, **Insert above** or **Insert below**.
- **Delete a row or column:** open the same handle and choose **Remove row** or **Remove column**.
- **Resize a column:** drag the column's right border.
- **Delete the table:** remove every row (or every column); the table disappears with the last one.
- **Fill a cell:** inside a cell, the `/` command offers text and emojis; lists, tables and quotes cannot nest in cells.

## How do I add emojis?

Type `/` and choose **Emoji** from the menu, or type `:` directly. Then type the first letters of the emoji's name and choose from the suggestions.
