# Activating the post validation workflow

## Activating the post validation workflow
With the post validation workflow, members can submit a post to a reviewer, who discusses it with them in a dedicated thread and then approves or rejects it before it reaches the newsfeed. You turn the workflow on for the whole organisation from the Newsfeed settings. Group managers can then make validation mandatory for posts in their own group.

> **Role prerequisite:** You need to be an organisation administrator to open this page. The workflow is included in certain plans only: if the **Post validation workflow** section is missing from the page, your plan does not include it.

## Turn on the validation workflow

1. Open **Administration > Newsfeed**, in classic Talkspirit.
2. Scroll to the **Post validation workflow** section.
3. Turn on **Allow users to follow a validation workflow before publishing their posts**.
4. Confirm your changes in the save bar that appears at the bottom of the page.

## What changes for members

Once the workflow is on:

- A **See validations list** entry appears in the newsfeed action bar's three-dot menu, with a chip counting unread reviews. It opens the **Validation process** page, where each member follows the posts they have been asked to validate (**To validate**) and the ones they have submitted (**Requested**).
- The post editor gains a **Validation** tab, where the author picks a reviewer before publishing. The reviewer must already be a recipient of the post: a member of the group it is addressed to, or one of the recipients of a private post. Submitting a post for validation stays optional, post by post, unless the group requires it (see below).
- The reviewer and the author exchange feedback in a discussion thread attached to the review. Only the assigned reviewer can request changes, approve or reject the post; after changes, the author resubmits it for validation. An approved post is published immediately, or at its scheduled date.

To walk through the member side of the flow, see [Getting a post reviewed before publishing](/en/communication/how-to-get-a-post-review-with-the-review-process).

## Require validation for a group

When the workflow is on, the **Set who can post** setting in each group's Settings panel gains a third option: **All members but a post must be approved by a group manager**.

With that option selected:

- Every post a member addresses to the group must be validated before it is published, and only a group manager can be picked as the reviewer.
- Group managers themselves publish directly, without validation.

> **Note:** Switching a group to this option while validations are in progress may interrupt them. The group Settings panel is described in [Managing groups](/en/administration-security/managing-groups).
